  1. Character Design Feedback

I think your central character Tumelo has a great deal of appeal and his style really encapsulates the African style running through your design bible. I think you have successfully developed him into a more more unique figure and his gestures and poses really demonstrate how you understand the carved style you have created. I think the expression sheets are a little one dimensional, so you may wish to think about varying the angles for each expression. I think it would also have been good to see him wearing the props you designed as it is a little unclear how these all fit together. Abuja is less developed but interns of expression sheets and poses, but I think you have done a good good in keeping both characters very distinct, with good use of colour, proportions and shapes.

The simplicity of your environments mirror the character style well, but i feel it would be good to see them more finished. Perhaps a more painted approach might lift the characters from the setting so it may be wort looking at some African textiles or art for inspiration. Although i like the stylised approach to the storyboard, i feel that the storytelling should be more complex. Tumelo returning to his village, now under the control of his evil Uncle, should be a pivotal, emotional scene. You may want to think about camera angles and lightning to help enforce that narrative (looking down upon Tumelo from Akuji’s higher vantage point, his shadow falling upon the nervous but defiant smaller elephant etc).

Overal then, there is a lot to like about your design bible. Your characters posses a strong sense of narrative and culture, unified by your choice of graphic design. However, I think you should spend some further time developing the storyboards to help bring the narrative to life. - JW
