Character Design Class #9

During the last character design class we were formed into groups of 5 where we were given different TV series. Based on the TV series, we were supposed to come up and develop a character which would fit into the world in which the series plays in. Our group got "Danger Mouse" an 2015 cartoon series. We came up with the characters and each one of us picked the character that we would like to do. I took the "Von Spy-Der". As the name already says he is a spy and also a spider. In addition to that one of us had to come up with a merchandise which would fit the series and the other group members were responsible for the environment. I got the task for the merchandise and came up with the spider gadget. After finishing my sketches I refined the lines of those in Illustrator as well.

As later on in the class we got another task to explore and draw randomly picked character. As for me, I got Popeye. It was a challenging character as for his chin to move accordingly to the facial expression.

Character Design Class #1

For our first character design class, the teacher told us to create same character only in two different ways, for example: iconic (simple image of the character meant for a younger group of people, such as children) and realistic. Nevertheless, I got bear Pooh, which is already made in basic shapes and curvy lines, making him seem friendly and squishy.

The three top images are meant to represent simplicity. Although drawing more realistic character they become more creepy. With the help from a teacher, I understood that some character can't be fully realistic. So my last image in right down corner, successfully became like bear Pooh only a tiny bit realistic.
